Neonatal hypothermia is a health problem, especially in newborns. One of the hypothermia prevention measures can be done by warming the baby's body, namely by conventional care in an incubator. However, incubator technology is relatively expensive so that the kangaroo method is used as a substitute for incubators for low birth weight babies. The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of kangaroo care on the prevention of hypothermia in low birth weight (LBW) infants based on empirical studies of the last 10 years. The design of this study used a literature review with inclusion criteria in accordance with the PICOS format. Methods in searching for sources or articles through the National Library of Indonesia's E-Resources database, Pubmed and Google Scholar (2011-2021) published in English and Indonesian. The keywords used are related to kangaroo care, hypothermia and low birth weight (LBW) babies. Based on a literature review from 7 research journals, it was found that the kangaroo method of care was effective in preventing hypothermia in low birth weight (LBW) infants, because the kangaroo method of care had the benefit of keeping the baby warm, increasing the bond between mother and baby, improving the breastfeeding process and causing a calming effect on the baby. It is hoped that nurses can carry out kangaroo care as an alternative intervention in preventing hypothermia in low birth weight (LBW) infants.
